Studies in massive open online courses provided by other universities

There has been an increase in massive open online courses (MOOC) offeren for free by other universities. Learning, using whatever means and resources provided, is of course always encouraged.

In some cases, it is possible to negotiate formal transfer of study credit if you have passed a high-quality* MOOC. Students need to negotiate the certification of the study transfer (preferably before the MOOC begins) with a responsible teacher**. It is up to the teacher to assess learning and submit the outcome to the study administration office. It should be noted that no teacher has a responsibility to assess student learning in other MOOC courses, i.e. students cannot demand it, even if the teacher is an expert in the field.

Students wishing to transfer formal credit from a MOOC need to prepare to provide some form of a written document or a report of the work done in the MOOC. In addition, there might be an oral exam or an interview, or a combination of abovementioned. Some means for assessment is alwas mandatory before the transfer is formally input into the University's study registry. The teacher decides the level (intermediate, advanced), grading ("pass" or "1-5"), and the number of ECTS credits.
